Emerson Art 4 Life Giraffe Sculpture

Well it is now February and, as always, it has been busy. After our craft business, Plithacorn Productions, went down to So.Cal for our first festival (which went well. We sold different items than I expected but it was a great experience!) at Art 4 Life we continued to work on our giraffe sculpture for February’s show. It is finished and up and I am very proud of them; it looks great. I did the final assembly and built the base but all of the rest, from limbs to paint to the head design, etc., is 100% the Emerson School kids.

The Emerson Art 4 Life Giraffe completed and set up at the Splendorporium.
The first layer of paint on the head.
A side view. The hooves are just hot-glued construction paper.
Chiam working on the ears.
A closer look at the finished piece.
A close up of her lovely face. Thegirls had fun carving out the foam eyes to glue the jewels in, and Kennedy even hand picked all of her eyelashes.
Body parts almost ready to go. One more layer of bright green left.
Plastered limbs waiting to dry.
This is how the giraffe legs are held down. Since I work with leather I have a lot of leather scraps. Repurposing FTW.
Once the body is attached to the legs it free stands.
The body is held in place with paper, hot glue, and modge podge.
Almost finished! Only touch up paint to go.
